Cidney: Getting Started

This document contains information about downloading, installing, and running Cidney.

Prerequisites

Shion requires the following to be in place:

  1. A Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard".

  2. An Apple USB modem. (Other modems may work as well, but haven't been tested.)

If you do not have one or more of these items, you can purchase them from the Audacious Software store.

Installation

  1. Download latest version of Cidney from the main Cidney page.

  2. Open the downloaded file and copy the Cidney application to your local disk. /Applications is a good location.

Running Cidney for the first time

  1. Launch Cidney. No windows will appear, but a small phone icon will appear in your status bar:

  2. Configure Cidney by clicking the phone icon in the status bar and select Preferences. If this computer is attached to the phone line, the "Listen for incoming calls..." option should be unchecked:

  3. If this computer is attached to the phone line, select your modem within the devices tab:

If Cidney can communicate with your modem, the Device Log should look like the one above.

That's it - Cidney is now configured for your system. Test it by calling yourself using another phone.

Reviewing the call log

To open the call log, select Call Log... from the Cidney status icon. This window will appear:

The call log will initially be empty until calls are made. Once calls are made, you can sort the by caller, date, or phone number. The search field in the upper-right will help you find specific calls.

To delete entries from the log, highlight the entries and click the button with the minus sign icon. This removes the entries from the log. If you want to customize a caller's ringtone or add tags for use with filtering, click the button with the magnifying glass icon to bring up a small window:

From this window, you can associate a ringtone with the caller and add any relevant tags.

Next steps

Once you are comfortable using Cidney, see the next section on filters.
